Customer Rating: Summary: Not worth the money Comment: I replaced the ironing board my mother got in 1957 with this...what a mistake! The first one fell repeatedly, even if you weren't in the room. That caused my new iron to get the sole plate bent. The cover started coming apart the first few weeks too. Contacted Rowenta and they had me send the cover and the iron to be "reviewed". They replaced the ironing board and the iron...but alas...the new ironing board is crooked and rocks, causing the new iron to fall off and bend the sole plate. Now I have a rocking ironing board and a bent iron that cost me over $200! Keep your money, buy a $25 ironing board and a $25 iron...you will be better off in the long run!
Customer Rating: Summary: Finally an ironing board that is well worth the money! Comment: Rowenta Ironing Board. It flipped right up, and it has been up ever since. There is a 2009 16-month calendar out called "Extreme Ironing" from the Extreme Ironing Bureau that is bizarre and intriguing. Buy It! It gives a whole different meaning to a "well-pressed shirt'!
Customer Rating: Summary: I don't hate ironing any more! Comment: This board actually makes ironing tolerable for me. It is super sturdy, doesn't wobble at all, and has a LARGE ironing surface. The fold-out hanging rack comes in really handy for hanging items before and after ironing, and the board is very easy to open and close. However, I wouldn't recommend this for anyone who has a problem lifting heavier items, as this board weighs a hefty 20 lbs. Otherwise, I LOVE it!
Customer Rating: Summary: Problems Comment: I like this ironing board, but right away there were problems.
Built-in Extension cord: First of all, the extension cord had some sort of black grease inside the holes. This smoked and smelled the first 20 times I used it. I became concerned about what chemicals I might be inhaling, especially since I have severe asthma. Also, during that time the iron plug kept falling out. That has stopped, but now when I pull the extension cored out of the wall, sparks fly, which concerns me!
Cover: Additionally, the cover is about 1/4" too small all the way around. It doesn't always stay on, and to reposition it takes two people, as it has to be stretched. It becomes virtually unusable after one washing. Then the cord that goes around the cover and has to be tightened hangs down, and my cats played with it for one minute and managed to snag it, whereupon it came unraveled and could not be controlled, so now it is way too long and not nearly as strong. I am in the process of ordering another cover, and also adding on to the one that came with the board.
Sharp edges: I cut myself on the edges around the end where one can hang clothes. I had to cover the sharp edges with masking tape.
As others have said, this is a heavy ironing board, and so was too heavy to send back. It is great for stability. But it takes some muscle and tinkering to get used to.
Customer Rating: Summary: Who spends so much on an ironing board? Comment: I'll tell you...someone who's tired of accidentally bumping into the ironing board and the iron tumbling down. Or worse, when you're ironing, and a garment gets caught on the ironing board and the same result...the ironing tumbling to the floor. The thought of a child running into the ironing board and having the iron fall onto them was enough to convince me to find a sturdy board. I will *never* buy a cheap ironing board again.
The fact that it's extra wide is cool, and that the height is adjustable is cool at well. It has a shelf underneath to put folded ironed garments, and the iron stand holds hangers. The day I received this, I ironed 10 pairs of pants and had them hanging from the iron stand, and it didn't tip the board or compromise the iron stand.
But this thing is heavy. I'm someone who needs to put away my ironing board, so this will probably at times feel like lead. But if that's the price I'll have to pay to not have a flimsy ironing board, so be it.
I considered buying the IB-6300, but the only difference I noted was that the 6300 had wheels and had a power supply on the iron. But a considerable amount more for cheap wheels and an extension cord didn't justify the price difference. So after I received this, I went to my garage, and found a 3prong extension cord and fashioned it to the ironing board. Problem solved! And I saved myself oodles of money.
Since I bought this on sale here, I think it's a fantastic investment. Not for the sake of having a "great product", because other ironing boards do function quite well as ironing board, but for the safety factor. Those cheap ironing boards are simply not safe around children or feet.
